What was the highlight of Ayara Villas
Ayara villas is a comfortable resort.
Ayara has a small private beach (the sea is quite often in during the day and can be a little bit rough with strong waves. There are loungers on the grass area opposite the restaurant that are free of charge. We stayed in the 2 floor duplex villa which had an outside seating area and a balcony for each bedroom. The rooms are a bit dated and could do with a bit of modernisation. The shower was good and the hairdryer was OK. It wasn't quite as luxurious as the pictures made out so I was a little disappointed. There was fresh water supplied for the room each day and shampoo and shower gel available. Bath towels and beach/pot towels. Breakfast was OK a selection of eggs, bacon, pancakes, fresh fruit, cereals and Thai dishes as per your standard breakfast the toasters leave a lot to be desired (more like warm bread). The highlight for us was the Massage services at the beach, the ladies were so lovely and were very experienced we stayed for 6 days and I made 3 visits ????. The hotel is a bit of a walk to the markets and restaurants and it cost us 200bht to the centre. Loads of restaurants and bars for food and drinks. The hotel do offer a shuttle bus at 6pm each day to the centre for 20bht per person.
A bit dated and the room smelt a bit musty.

What was the highlight of Ayara Villas
Decent place to stay for a couple of days. Close to public beach and walking streets.
Good breakfast with a fantastic view to start the day. The coffee was some of the best I have had in Thailand. Being able to choose from 3 pools was nice. Staff are friendly and helpful. Very attentive at breakfast. Great selection of pillows. Complimentary happy hour coffee next to lobby in high season was nice. Plenty of parking however depending on room location may not be convenient as resort is spread across 3 blocks. Air conditioner quiet and very cold, 2x room keys provided so can be left on. Room doesn’t have musty smell that is common in Thailand. Shower spacious, hot with good water pressure. We liked the doorbell and electronic do not disturb display. Rooms serviced early.
The fridge in both of our rooms would not get cold. Shower broken in one of our rooms (Taped together, water still functional) The mould around all pool facilities could use a clean. The rooms aren’t very sound proof. We could hear everything in surrounding rooms and walkways. Bed was very hard but that’s standard for Thailand. Pool opening hours could probably be extended. The pool entry rooms have no privacy. Would have loved a pool bar, with 3 seperate pools this would be a wonderful addition.

What was the highlight of Ayara Villas
Beautiful pools, sunsets and green surroundings, lovely staff, a little far out of town
We had such a relaxing and lovely stay here. The staff were wonderful, going above and beyond to help. Eg when our daughter was too jet lagged to make it to breakfast they remembered her favourite dish and packed her a takeaway box. The pools were beautiful, we bought inflatable toys in town and spent a lot of time there. We loved the restaurant setting overlooking the sea and sunset views, and our daughter became very fond of the resident cats and geckos, and the swing. There had been rain damage just before we arrived so we could not stay in the villa we had booked, but got upgraded to a 2 bedroom suite in the main building by the pools, which was very comfortable. We stayed off season during the monsoon, so the hotel was very quiet, sometimes eerily so. But once we got used to it we enjoyed having the pools mostly to ourselves, and the rain was usually only an hour a day followed quickly by hot sun. Beautiful area with trees and plants attracting stunning big butterflies. Great day trips nearby - Eco tours Khao Lak bamboo rafting trip through the jungle, sea turtle conservation centre, Khao Lak ethical elephant sanctuary, Phi Phi islands. You can book most of these through the hotel. Lovely night market in Bang Niang if touristy, great food and souvenirs. The Chicken House restaurant just north of the hotel was brilliant, lovely food and staff - just took us a while to realise it was open as everything was rather deserted and we were usually the only customers.
The beach by the hotel was a little disappointing - covered partly in plastic sacking and surrounded by concrete walls. The other beaches close by have a lot of plastic rubbish and derelict buildings. Walking further north towards the Haven hotel there were beautiful beaches again, or a taxi to Coconut beach about 15 mins away. Note that the Surin islands and others near Khao Lak are closed to visitors during the monsoon season which we had not realised (we stayed in august). You cannot see much if snorkelling near the hotel as the sea is cloudy with sand churned up by the monsoon. However we took a day trip to the Phi Phi islands 1.5 hours away, booked through the hotel, which is more sheltered and had incredible snorkelling with brightly coloured fish. The hotel is a bit out of town, about 20-30 mins walk. We normally like walking but from about 9am-6pm the heat was too much and we spent more than expected on taxis. However it was easy to call the main reception and ask for a taxi within 10 mins. Also a lot of building works which were noisy.
